From Capital Tonight:
A reader forwarded an invite to a $1,000-a-head gala being held for Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Long Island at the Crest Hollow Country Club next month.
Brad Gerstman and David Schwartz, co-founders of Gotham Government Relations & Communications, are hosting the event. Their Garden City-based firm provides a range of consulting and lobbying services.
The baseline ticket gets purchasers entry into a general reception. An additional $9,000 provides one person with access to a VIP reception (I assume the governor would be attending this, but the invite doesn’t specify) as well as five general reception tickets.
Hosts will be expected to raise/contribute $25,000, co-chairs $50,000, and chairs $100,000 with tickets and access increasing along the way. There’s mention of something called the “NYC Birthday Celebreation;” Cuomo turns 54 on Dec. 6, and he has on several occasions held political fundraising events to mark that date.
As of mid-July, Cuomo had $9.2 million on hand in his campaign committee, Cuomo 2014. He has kept up his fundraising operation since taking office last January – a necessity, since he said he planned to use leftover campaign cash to rally New Yorkers’ support for his budget cuts – but has slowed his pace somewhat since the frenzy of 2010.
A side note on one of the gala hosts: This spring, Gerstman created an exploratory committee seeded with $300,000 of his own money for a potential 2012 run for a yet unnamed political office.
The self-described “Cuomo Democrat” said he would be willing to up that to $1 million he is decides to throw his hat into the ring for either a local, state of Congressional office.
