James Stevens is an attorney and seasoned lobbyist who graduated from St. Bonaventure University, magna cum laude, with a B.A. in Philosophy/Pre-Law and a minor in English. As part of his Pre-Law curriculum, James participated in mock trial. James then attended Hofstra University School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor. In his third year at Hofstra, James participated in the Hofstra University Child Advocacy Clinic where he represented disadvantaged youth in the Long Island and New York City communities in child maltreatment and Special Immigrant Juvenile cases.

Since graduating law school and being licensed as an attorney, James has practiced in the areas of family law, real estate and land use, wills, trusts and estates, commercial litigation, corporate law, construction law, labor and employment law, personal injury, general liability, civil litigation and criminal defense.

For more than four (4) years, attorney James R. Stevens has focused his practice on the field of construction law. James has extensive and comprehensive experience representing contractors, owners, and developers in all areas of construction law, from consultation and drafting of contracts, bids, change orders, lien waivers, terminations and other legal notices, and various other construction documents, to dealing with the full gamut of issues that may arise on construction projects, including project administration, requisitions, and payments, lien law issues, bonds and surety claims, and all phases of construction litigation.

James has appeared in various courts on the full range of construction law matters and has successfully argued motions and tried cases to successful verdicts and settlements. James has worked on multiple Labor Law 240/construction site accident cases involving serious injuries and fatalities, including working in all phases of a Labor Law 240 trial.

James also has years of experience representing construction clients at administrative/agency hearings throughout New York City and Long Island, including successfully defending against DOB, DOT, and other agency violations at the ECB, and successfully appealing ECB decisions. James has experience with a diverse project base, including commercial, residential, and mixed-use buildings, and both public and private projects.
